At first smack it is a bit reminiscent of an X-ES or X-EQ(audio control).

Altec Lansing Consumer Products is Sparkomatic, or rather was. The Altec brand is now owned by a marketing company.

There was some Altec engineering expertise involved for a bit. Not sure how long. Any consumer stuff after somewhere 83-84 isn't real Altec.
